SRI LANKA INDEPENDENCE DAY

Sri Lanka Independence Day is celebrated on the 4th of February every year. It is a very important national day for Sri Lankans. On this day, Sri Lanka became a free country in 1948, after many years of British rule. Independence means having the freedom to govern our own country without foreign control.

On Independence Day, the national flag is hoisted in schools, offices, and public places. The national anthem is sung with pride and respect. Many official ceremonies are held in the capital city, Colombo, under the patronage of the President. Cultural events, traditional dances, and parades are also organised to show the rich heritage of Sri Lanka.

This day reminds us of the great leaders who fought for our freedom. D. S. Senanayake, the first Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, played a major role in gaining independence. People remember the sacrifices made by our national heroes and feel grateful for their efforts.

Independence Day teaches us the value of freedom, unity, and peace. It is our duty as citizens to protect our country, respect one another, and work hard for the development of Sri Lanka. As Sri Lankans, we should be proud of our nation and celebrate Independence Day with love and patriotism.
